Spring

Fawns and calves

The most photogenic weeks of the year. Whitetail does drop fawns in late May and early June; elk calves and bison calves show up around the same time. If your family wants to see baby animals, this is the window.

July – August

Summer

Antlers in velvet

Bucks and bull elk are building the antlers they will carry all fall. You can literally watch them grow week to week — an inch a day is not unusual at peak. Come early in the morning for the most animal activity; shade-seekers will lie low in the heat of the day.

September – October

Fall

The rut and the bugle

This is the season most wildlife enthusiasts book for. Bucks are hard-horned and moving through the rut, and bull elk will bugle — a rising whistle that carries across the property. Nothing else in the Michigan woods sounds like it.

November – March

Late fall / winter

Quiet season

We're open limited hours or closed for the coldest months. Please call ahead. The ranch still runs — we're still working — but we're not hosting daily tours. Winter is when the next generation gets planned.
