We didn't buy a playground. We built one out of what was already on the property. The centerpiece is a retired tractor tire the size of a dinner table, bolted to a ramp and sent into a green slide. Around it you'll find a giant sandbox, a few more old tire climbers, a vintage Farmall tractor the kids can actually climb on, and enough open space to not have to hear "we're bored" for the rest of the drive home.
The playground is always free with admission. It's also, honestly, where the grown-ups sit down for ten minutes while the kids burn off the last of their energy.
For parents
- Suggested ages are roughly 3–12. Bigger kids can still have fun — they just won't be the target audience.
- The equipment is rustic. It's been sitting in Michigan weather for a long time and looks it. Check for splinters like you would on any outdoor playground, and dress kids in clothes that can survive sand.
- There is no fence around the whole play area — the ranch is big and open. Keep an eye on little ones.
- Shade is limited in mid-summer. Bring water, bring hats.
